BACKGROUND

Children’s Week Florida is the largest statewide celebration dedicated to honoring Florida’s commitment to children, youth, and families. Through community events and educational activities, Children’s Week raises awareness of the needs of children and families while recognizing the programs, partners, and leaders who provide direct services and support.

Through the continued collaboration of the Community Services Department and the Children’s Services Advisory Committee (CSAC), Indian River County is participating locally for the third consecutive year with a full week of family-focused activities designed to celebrate and engage children and the community. This year’s Children’s Week will feature daily themed events including a hands-on “Build Like a Hero” youth design challenge at the Indian River County Main Library, a “Voices of Families Day” to gather parent and caregiver feedback, a countywide “Color Your Cape” art challenge showcasing youth creativity, the Golden Impact Awards recognizing outstanding volunteers, program staff , and community leaders at the iG Center, and literacy activities through Storybook Village in partnership with Childcare Resources of Indian River County.

The week culminates with the Golden Impact Awards ceremony, which highlights everyday heroes and celebrates the measurable impact of CSAC-funded programs serving children and families across the county. A full schedule of Children’s Week Indian River County activities is provided.

ANALYSIS

A $5,000 donation from John's Island Community Service League, via The United Way of Indian River County, will support Children’s Week activities in Indian River County, including event materials, supplies and recognition efforts. Acceptance of these funds offsets event costs while enhancing community participation and program visibility.

BUDGETARY IMPACT

Funds, in the amount of $5,000, will be allocated via budget amendment to the General Fund/Children's Services/Children's Week account, number 00112869-035295. The donation will be recorded in the General Fund/Donations-Children's Week account, number 001038-366094.

POTENTIAL FUTURE BOARD ACTIONS
